Wicker Women Photos

I think it's safe to say that a fun time was had by all at the Wicker Women benefit this past Saturday at Chrome Gallery.

All of the portraits hanging on the walls were shot by photographer Jennifer Bisbing of the Wicker Women project. Donations from the door, and silent auction benefit CAWC, which operates a shelter in Wicker Park.

More on the benefit in tomorrow's Pipeline eNewsletter, but for now here are a few photos. PS: Unfortunately I am not a photographer, and went a bit too crazy with iPhoto color changing. If any Wicker Women would like me to remove their photo from this blog, please email me at streetsofwicker@hotmail.com  Thx!

WHO: One Mind, Body & Being, Bucktown's Pilates, Yoga and Wellness Studio

WHERE: 2035 W. Wabansia, between Milwaukee and Damen

WHEN: October through December, 2009

INFORMATION: In order to celebrate their recent move into a larger, light-filled studio and a fresh update of their website, One Mind, Body & Being is thrilled to announce two Pilates packages for both new, returning, and current clients. "Health and wellness is a state-of-mind and a positive sense of self-worth," she explains. "People of all shapes and sizes are always welcome at One." Ms. Weinstein also recommends interested students to take a look at One's website for pictures of the studio and equipment, current class descriptions, and contact information.

She owns One Mind, Body & Being, a fitness studio in Bucktown focusing on a dynamic range of Pilates and yoga classes, as well as offering an ongoing calendar of neighborhood-oriented health and wellness events. What looks good on four legs?

Do dogs dream in black, and white? Do they like wearing angel wings? Do they enjoy parading around in little outfits? Do they understand Halloween?

It's all a mystery, isn't it? Okay, well here's what you can do: Try not to think too much about the mysteries of the world, and dress up your dog- if you have one, that is- in a costume. Then, bring your best buddy to Churchill Park on Sat. Oct. 24th.

Possibly more on this in Mon/Tuesday's Pipeline eNewsletter. Click on the poster to enlarge it.

Newbie on North

Today was Bri's first day on the job, and oh what a day it is: gray, rainy, with empty seats in every window we passed.

More on Bri, where she's from, and where she works in next week's Pipeline.

"Best Fitness Deal in Bucktown"

Through Dec. 31, 2010, Bucktown Fitness Club at 2100 W. North is offering a $475 yearly special, with no contracts, and no initiation fees. A former manufacturing facility, Jamie purchased BFC in the late 1980s. The gym is family owned, and operated.

As for the contracts, Jamie told The Pipeline that he just wants people to get moving, and working out, and doesn't feel like you need to charge extra fees to do that. His lower than usual overheard since he owns his building means he doesn't have to raise membership fees to pay the rent.

If you need a juice bar, Internet cafe, and people wearing fancy fitness outfits sweating next to you, BFC is not the gym for you. If you just need equipment- weights, or cardio, and a spot to stretch, along with another spot to store your stuff while you workout- than this is the place for you. Pictured are Jeremy, who has been a member about a year, and a half, and J. who has belonged to BFC for six years, and continues to visit the club though she now lives in Humboldt Park.

Trunk Show Images

Designer Gayla Bentley's clothing arrived in six boxes, and no steamer trunk, though there was a handheld steamer floating around. Trunks are so old school, but they sound quaint, don't they? Following is a link to a slideshow taken within the first hour or so of vive la femme's three day trunk show featuring designs by Gayla Bentley.

More on vive la femme, and Gayla, the designer, forthcoming in tomorrow, or possibly Tuesday's Pipeline eNewsletter.
