Gorilla Tango Theatre is hosting the premieres of two new one-act plays by Norwegian women next week. Mette Fjæreide directs her Come Closer, while Dina Naverud directs Anxiety, Panic, and the Hatred, which she wrote with Ida Mailen Hagerup. The three are students at Ensemble Free Theater Norway, founded by American actor, director, and choreographer Brendan McCall to nurture young Scandinavian playwrights and directors. The plays were developed here in Chicago during a residency at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln. The show runs 11/11-11/14: Thu-Fri 7 PM, Sat-Sun 4:30 PM, at Gorilla Tango Theatre, 1919 N. Milwaukee. Tickets are $10; call 773-598-4549 or visit www.gorillatango.com.
In other theater news, the House Theatre of Chicago next week begins previews of their version of E.T.A. Hoffmann's The Nutcracker, adapted by Phillip C. Klapperich and Jake Minton and featuring an original score by company member Kevin O'Donnell. House company member Tommy Rapley directs. The Nutcracker plays 11/11-12/26 at Chopin Theatre, 1543 W.
