Eyeporium Gallery Exhibition Opening
“They Call Me Mellow Jello” by Teresa Petersen
Opening is Saturday, May 14, 2011
CHICAGO, Illinois – May 6, 2011 – Quite rightly, Eyeporium Gallery welcomes the return of Teresa Petersen with a new body of collage works. Petersen lives and works in the city of Detroit, Michigan. Her collages are made from vintage prints, catalogs, and magazines, along with the occasional found object. Her work emphasizes and explores the relationships between women's stereotypes and ideals: in culture, in nature, and in our throw-away society.
WHEN:
Opening Reception (public invited) – Saturday, May 14, 2011 from 12 noon to 5pm
Exhibition - Through Wednesday, June 15, 2011
WHERE:
Eyeporium Gallery (inside Eye Want)
1431 N. Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60622
Phone 773.782.1744
Two blocks from the “Damen” Blue Line El stop in the heart of Wicker Park.
ABOUT TERESA PETERSEN:
Teresa holds an MFA from Wayne State University in Detroit. Her original art interests were scientific illustration, then painting. Now she prefers to “building” her images from the actual vintage pictures that had previously been used for reference only. Cutting things apart and symbolically reconfiguring them is part of the magic and power of collage and assemblage. Teresa explores the historical interrelationship of women, nature and mythology in our consumer culture – what is considered natural or ideal – and the forces that govern our lives: time, culture, family, fate, chance, cycles and divine powers
ABOUT EYEPORIUM GALLERY:
Annette Sollars, creator of Chicago's fine eyewear icon, Eye Want, also launched Eyeporium, a fine art gallery in Wicker Park. Representing exceptional artists of regional and national prominence, Eyeporium Gallery features contemporary creators of paint, print, photographic and sculptural works from the realistic to the surreal to the abstract. With the location of Eyeporium inside Eye Want, Annette has created a single destination for you to procure fine eyewear and fine art “for your face and your space”.
