RIP, Spin Cycle
Let's hope the owners of Spin Cycle, Wicker Park's largest Laundromat, work out a deal with the management company of the strip mall where they rent space because this place is essential. And now it appears closed.
This morning, we awoke early post-holiday, seized by a desire to 'get our act together,' and be productive. Among exciting tasks, laundry was at the very top of our list.
RIP, Spin Cycle. :(

Janik's cafe would love your vote
Happy holidays! Since we started the website at chicago-pipeline.com we've been strangely absent on blogspot, and I know we all need another voting thing like another pound of fat on our bodies post-latkes and sugar cookies and whatnot, but Janik’s Cafe is awesome, along with its owners whom I’ve been popping in on since ’07 and once helped them to make a Myspace page, so here we are five years later on Facebook or WordPress or whatever-the-heck-virtual land this is, and Wayne of Janik’s sent an email to us earlier today indicating that they would be so grateful it we could help to spread the word on the fact they could use a few more votes in the Best Holiday Display on Division St. contest sponsored by Do Division, the annual shopping extravaganza which takes place on, where else, but Division Street.

Yum!
Let's have a round of applause for the 2500 neighbors and friends who turned out this year for our 7th annual Bucktown Apple Pie Contest, the 142 amateur and 16 professional bakers who entered, the dozens of volunteers who made the day a success, our sponsors and park staff.
The winner, in case you are wondering, was Alison Summy, a third and fifth place winner in past contests. In the professional division, the blue ribbon went to Dinah Grossman from Cheap Tart Bakery. The four runner-ups were Adrienne Smith, Kathy Rice, Laura Kaminski and Joan Elias. Congratulations to all.

The sculptural works range in theme from mythical archetypes to wry commentary on the human condition to…flying whales. Recent life drawings, many of which were created at the Studio/Gallery’s Sunday workshop, pay homage to each artist’s grounding in the human form.
The artists will be on hand at the reception to share lively dialog on their inspiration and process.

ABOUT TOM ROBINSON STUDIO/GALLERY:
Tom Robinson -- artist, curator, arts administrator, competition founder and judge, teacher, innovator -- has been a driving force in the Chicago art scene for over 30 years. “I never tire of the ways different artists see and capture the same scene”, says Robinson. “The real difference comes from how the artists direct their attention.”

What, what's that you say for a kid's manicure? $5?
How young is too young to get a manicure? The answer is up to you. Bring your young princesses into Asia Nails, 2051 W. North Ave. and the friendly family focused team will see what they can do about making her hands look super cute. Fun fact: Boo-Palooza is coming, and Shayla just painted a ghost onto a young lady's thumbnail. Check out the ghost, and if you stop by, be sure to check out Asia Nail's newly remodeled digs, too. Having recently painted three rooms myself and having done a horrendous job, I can certainly admire those who get out the paintbrushes and cans to take a break painting walls, especially when they'd otherwise be painting fingernails.
"We did it during the night," Tina said of the remodeling job.
Now until Oct. 31st, get a manicure for your pint-sized little one for just $5, with the mention of "ghost." Then you can explain to your little one what ghosts are, via Wikipedia. Photos courtesy of Shayla, who is quite the shutterbug.
