Community Safety Alert: Home Invasion Burglary


According to Area Five Detectives, a home invasion occurred this past Sat. January 14, 2012 at approx. 6:15 a.m., in the 3000 block of N. Sawyer Ave. in Logan Square.

Per the alert, the offender– described as an African American male in his 30s, 5’10 tall, approx. 180 lbs., wearing a black knit cap, blue jacket with white stripes, and a carrying a black backpack– made entry into an apartment.

The offender displayed a handgun before duct taping the victims’ hands, mouth and eyes. Read more on pipeline website (where we are spending more time these days).

Community Safety Alert: Pattern of Sidewalk Robberies in 14th District


According to a safety alert issued by the 14th District Police, a pattern of eight similar robberies have been reported over the past month involving a lone male offender who approaches female victims on the sidewalk and robs them of their purses, money, and cell phones.

Though most of these incidents are occurring in the late evening and early morning hours, the most recent incident occurred this past Wed. Jan. 4, at 4PM on the 1700 block of West Wabansia.

* 1800 block of North California – Dec. 17, 2011, 6:00 AM

* 1700 block of North Central Park – Dec. 21, 2011, 6:15 AM •

* 1900 block of North Western – Dec. 22, 2011, 23:00 PM

* 2100 block of North California – Dec. 24, 2011, 07:00 AM •

* 2000 block of North Kimball – Dec. 31, 2011, 23:00 PM •

* 1500 block of North Hoyne – Jan. 03, 2012, 03:00 AM

* 1700 block of West Wabansia – Jan. 04, 2012, 04:00 PM

Offender’s Description
• Male black offender, described as 18-39 years of age, 5’08”-6’06”, and 150-180 lbs. In two of the incidents, the offender was described as having dreadlocks.
• The offender has been described as wearing a gray or brown hooded sweatshirt, or a black puffy coat.

What you can do:
• Report any suspicious people or activity in the area. • Be aware of this situation and alert neighbors in the area about this crime. • Pay special attention to any subjects loitering in the area.
